Vehicle deregistration & scrapping in Boksburg

Every vehicle must be registered with your district licensing department — and if it's no longer roadworthy, or you'd like to use it purely as, say, a garden feature, it needs to be formally deregistered instead of just left off the road.

  • Original green Natis (RC1) / vehicle registration document
  • Copy of the owner's ID document
  • Photos of the scrapped vehicle

Export — buyer unknown

Govt + RenewGP: R572

A vehicle can't be deregistered if a new owner never completed the change of ownership. If that new owner has disappeared or can't be traced, an "export — buyer unknown" application is required instead.

What to bring
  • Police affidavit confirming the vehicle was sold — including the sale date and amount, and explaining that the new owner can't be located to complete the change of ownership. It must also describe the vehicle's registration number, licence number, and chassis number
  • Original green Natis (RC1)
  • Copy of the current owner's ID document (the person the vehicle was sold to)
